SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (June 9, 2016) – The California League of Conservation Voters—the nonpartisan political action arm of California’s environmental movement—will honor four of California’s leading environmental champions at its annual Environmental Leadership Awards in San Francisco tonight.
“CLCV is proud to honor these three remarkable women and one outstanding organization, for their contributions to California’s environmental movement. They all inspire us all to work for social and environmental progress, for the health and well-being of our communities, and for the future of our planet,” said CLCV chief executive officer Sarah Rose.
The event reception begins at 6:00 p.m. and the program at 7:00 p.m. at the Julia Morgan Ballroom, Merchants Exchange Building, 465 California Street, San Francisco.
CLCV’s Environmental Leadership Awards recipients include:
- Senator Barbara Boxer, a powerful advocate for families, children, consumers, the environment and her State of California;
- Dolores Huerta, a renowned labor leader and civil rights activist and co-founder of the National Farmworkers Association, now known as the United Farm Workers;
- Vien Truong, the director of Green For All, a national initiative to build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty; and
- Silicon Valley Leadership Group, a public policy business organization that plays a pivotal role in crafting regional, state, and federal solutions to simultaneously improve the area’s economy and protect our environment.
“From the fields of the Central Valley, to the churches of Oakland; from the garages of Silicon Valley, to the halls of Congress, tonight’s honorees use their unique talents to build power for California’s environmental and social justice movements. As legends in their own time, they represent the best of our collective efforts to build a sustainable and equitable future for California’s families, our neighborhoods and our planet, and we are honored to be able to recognize their work tonight,” said Rose.
